There were 4 battalions of Spanish Marines serving in Cuba in 1898 when the war broke out between Spain and the United States. The US Army learned the hard way how effective the smokeless powder 7mm Model 1893 Mauser was in comparison to the single shot 1884 Springfield Trapdoor rifle and Krag rifles. This was almost certainly one of the cache of weapons captured in Santiago Cuba in 1898 during the Spanish American War. He told us he acquired it from a family who claimed it to have been in their house for the past 70 years. It came to us from rifle a dealer on the East Coast. This 1893 still has most of its original blue, all matching #'s, great Spanish Crests, and fantastic tiger striped European walnut. These are not very easy to find and most of the ones that turn up are in pretty rough shape. Sorry, it took a while to get a description done for this one but this wasthe best example of a Spanish Mauser we've ever offered and we had to do some research on the markings. I’d given him a budget and he could have stretched me out a bit as most shops do, but no, his recommendations and advice were honest, very believable and he couldn’t have spent more time and effort with us, from running thorugh the best options, taking us outside with a few scopes for the boys to try, right down to doing a bit of a discount on a quote. Glenn actually talked us down a bit on rifles, and up a bit on scopes, and it made total sense. Talk about a fantsatic, low pressure, informative experience. We wandered int he shop on a Saturday arvo, met Glenn, and the best part was he shook my boys hands and talked to THEM as much as me. I had only got my license and filled out two PTA’s the day before, so I wasn’t able to buy anything as yet. I’m a brand new licenced shooter, and wanted my boys to get good advice and take the time to let them make their own decisions. I wanted to find a shop that would take the time to help my two teenage sons through their first 22.
